That’s a whole lotta moola that should be staying in our pockets! This unnecessary spending can easily be remedied with some minor changes in our habits.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing with you four reasons it’s difficult for you to find things in your home.
Reason #1: You have too much clutter.
The first reason that you can’t find what you’re looking for when you need it is that you have too much clutter. And I will be the kind of friend to tell you, girlfriend, you have too much clutter in your house. Because here’s the thing when we have things all over our counters and in all the drawers, and we have junk drawers, remember we renamed those drawers, they are no longer junk drawers. If you have something that you are calling a junk drawer in your house, you need to go to my episode where I teach you how to declutter your junk drawer for good.
So you have too much clutter to begin with and that’s why you can’t find things because the thing is that you laid down is surrounded by all the junk that you really don’t need. When we have too much clutter, we don’t have the systems of organization in our house. And all that physical clutter turns into mental clutter and visual clutter. Without a system of organization, we don’t have defined places where these items are going in our house.
I define clutter as any item that doesn’t serve a purpose. It’s not useful. It’s not purposeful, and it’s not precious to you. I’m sure you have plenty of items that fits that description so let’s clear out those items and create those systems of organization in your home. When you clear the clutter and get those systems in place, you’ll know exactly where to find items once you need them again.
Reason #2: You don’t have clear organization systems.
The next reason, and I already touched on this some, is that you don’t have clear systems of organization.
The Kindergarten Method
If you’re brand new to organizing or you’re not a naturally organized person, I advise you to use the kindergarten Method” when you creating your organization systems. In a kindergarten classroom, everything is clearly and boldly labeled so students know exactly where to return items. It’s simple. It’s color-coded. And when students can’t read, it may even have a picture label instead of a word.
So if you’re not naturally good at organizing and keeping things organized through good habits, it helps to have everything labeled. It will help you home run more smoothly, have a better flow and stay tidier because everyone will know exactly where everything is supposed to be returned after its use.
If this is something you struggle with and you just can’t get yourself to take the next step, then you need to work with me one-on-one in person or online. It’s my mission to help busy moms create peace and order in their homes through systems of organization. And not only that, I want to help you overhaul your habits, because if you set up these systems and you don’t follow through and actually use them through habits and retraining your habits, then you’re just going to be back in the same spot where you started. Your home will become cluttered again if you don’t break the cycle. Let’s work together and make some lasting changes. CONTACT
Reason #3: You’ve taken on too much to manage.
This next reason is that you’ve taken on too much to manage.
Okay, I am guilty of this but this past month I have been cutting back a lot in how much I’m responsible for and managing in my life. I am a big advocate of simplifying your life so that it is a specifically manageable for just you. How much we take on will vary from person to person though.
I am a minimalist so I can only handle so much to manage, whether it’s in my home. Cleaning. The amount of stuff that I have. The amount of activities that I’m involved in. I like to live a more minimal lifestyle because I can only manage and keep up with so much.
You too may not able to find things because you have just bitten off more than you can chew and you’ve taken on too many things to manage in your home to begin with. And also too many activities, whether it’s your personal activities, in your home, in your business or with your family, but you can be also too involved with your kids activities. You might need to cut back.
I know for me, it’s it’s been a breath of fresh air. I know it’s hard I know it’s hard to say no to things when we’ve been so used to saying yes, and we want to be involved and not miss out. But let FOMO, the fear of missing out, be okay in your life. You do not have to be involved in every single thing and every opportunity that comes your way. Weed out some stuff, cut back, get more simplified in your life.
I tell client that want to make a dramatic change in their life to take it down to the bare bones take it down to the bare minimum. Just like with clearing off your countertops. Yeah, we could have pretty things on our countertops but if you have a habit of putting items on your countertop and it just collects and becomes cluttered then to retrain that habit, you really need to cut it all off and get it down to the bare minimum. A clean slate so that you can retrain yourself how to keep those areas clutter free and clear.
The same goes with our schedule. We have to cut it all out. Learn how to be okay in the simplified version of our life and then we can slowly add in tasks back into our life for us to manage.
Do the hard work and cut out some things. Again, if you’re not good at this and you need some accountability, I’m here for you. Contact me about life coaching, home decluttering, and home organization. I also help clients declutter their businesses and streamline their income producing activities.
Reason #4: You’re not taking care of your health so you can focus.
And the last reason why you can’t find anything or find the things that you’re looking for is that you’re not taking care of your health to have for optimal focus capability.
I have recently started fasting, intermittent fasting, right before Thanksgiving. And y’all I’m telling you, my ability to focus has been super heightened. I feel like it’s my superpower. I’m not consuming refined sugar. Sugar extremely hinders your mental capabilities. Cut it out for a month and see how productive you become.
Something else that can hurt your ability to focus is not getting adequate sleep. I need at least eight hours of sleep and when I don’t I find it harder to concentrate. That’s why a bedtime routine and schedule is a must.
And the last one is you’re not getting enough exercise. With our technological that we’re in, we can work from anywhere but we tend to just sit on our butst and not get up and move. Am I right?!
I am personally working on an upstairs office in our home. I haven’t given an update on our renovations lately, but our office is almost finished. We just got the carpet laid last Friday. But guess what. I still can’t record podcast episodes up there yet because the padding ended up being so thick that we couldn’t close the door! So I’m still stuck down here in my husband’s side of our closet.
Anyway, in our home office, instead of doing a desk, I decided to do a kitchen height countertop to serve as a standing. That way I can get more movement in during the day.
Try to find some ways, whether you’re at home or at work, that you can move more. When you move more, you increase your endorphins and you have more ability to focus. When we can focus more. We keep our houses tidier. We keep our house more organized, and when we’re more organized, we can place things down and be able Find them when we need them again. So the whole thing is wrapped around the whole end goal is us being able to find things better when we need them.
